From Darkness to Light – St. Laurence’s, Church Stretton

This Christmas will see Little Hereford Voices perform an entirely new piece written especially for them by their Musical Director, Kimee Cleaton. Presented as a ‘musical in concert,’ From Darkness to Light is a re-telling of the familiar Nativity story, but from a slightly different slant, and with entirely original music and songs. We all know the story – angel appears to Mary saying she’ll be a mother to the Christ-child, Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem, her baby is born, and strangers visit and offer the child gifts. This musical approaches things from a slightly different perspective to the usual narrative, giving voice to characters that we don’t often see in the traditional Nativity portrayal, or who don’t usually get to speak, such as the Father of John the Baptist (the priest Zechariah), Gabriel’s first visit (to someone other than Mary!), Joseph’s feelings after Jesus is born, and the old man whom Mary, Joseph and Jesus encounter at their first visit to the temple, Simeon. The musical will be performed on two main occasions: Friday 13th December in Little Hereford Village Hall at 7:30pm and on Saturday 21st December in St. Laurence’s Church, Church Stretton, at 7:30pm. From Darkness to Light will fill the first half of the two concerts, with the second half being made up of Christmas carols and songs, including some audience carols. The musical will also form part of a Christmas service on Sunday 15th December in Leominster Priory at 4:30pm. Chairman of Little Hereford Voices, Paul Burnham, said “We feel enormously privileged to be associated with such a talented musician as Kimee, and...
